Sharen lives and works in the South Island of New Zealand and has been painting since the 1980's.
It should be time to retire, but well, artists never retire. The urge to paint is tooooo compulsive, or described by that overworked word from some time back " a passion".
"I start an artwork just playing with colours and shapes, with big brushes, sweeping arm movements, lots of splashes and no expectation about a finished image. Just the pure joy of creating.
Gradually an image takes shape and is developed further. There's a lot of walking back and forwards from the easel, turning of the work and assessing it from different angles. It's then that I decide which way is "up" and the signature is added.
I've included some of the works that have been sold and found a already found a home as I wanted to show the scope and variety of my work over the years.
My studio is currently the hothouse. Nice and warm in our cold winter, fast drying for paint in the summer. And, I can talk to the plants while I'm working. Whatever - it's a happy place. "
